After so many years of building its name in the business and in the industry, the ‘long boom’ has just begun!
This year has been a great milestone for Agway Chemicals Corporation as it celebrated its silver anniversary last February 25, 2011. It was a very special moment to mark the company’s success. After 25 years, Agway has become one of the top players in the industry and one of the most sought after corporations of the Philippines. After so many things that had happened to the company from its inception up to where it is right now, for Agway however, the history of the future is just beginning to unfold. And once again it is making anew its mark and creating its own version of success story in the industry. From its humble beginning in the year 1986, the company has created history not only for itself but also for the industry’s existence as a whole.
Agway Chemicals Corp. traced its roots way back as a small business endeavor with the pioneering initiative of Mr. Glicerio B. Rosario. It was established along Sta. Ana Avenue under the trade name Agway Chemicals. From that day, opportunity paved its way, creating and evolving the business and the company into what it is today. The once retailer-dealer of several fertilizers and pesticides employing only three people is now one of the biggest distributor of fertilizers and agricultural chemicals in the Philippines.
In the early 90’s, business became lucrative for Agway Chemicals that it gave the company recognition as a key player in the chemical and fertilizer industry in Davao Region. Owing to this, the company was able to establish two new branches, one in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental and the other in Bankerohan Davao City to capture new markets. Because of the great demand for both fertilizers and agricultural chemicals during that time, many suppliers are searching for distributors that are willing to sell their products in the region. It was the perfect timing for Agway Chemicals to expand their business and the company grabbed the opportunity to become the distributor for products of companies such as Bayer Cropscience, Syngenta Philippines, Monsanto Philippines, Jardine Agchem, and Du Pont.
Over the years, operations and transactions became complicated as the business served vast number of dealers, plantations, growers and farmers. Sole proprietorship form of business could not keep up with the industry’s demand and Mr. Rosario decided to restructure the whole business by creating a new management by incorporating the business on November 22, 2004. This new management focused more of its marketing and operating efforts for the business forward – real directions and viable results. In so doing, Agway Chemicals changed its business trade name into Agway Chemicals Corporation. From 2005 up to 2010 the company was able to establish eight more branches located in some strategic locations of Mindanao and in the Visayas. Recently, it built and opened its ninth branch in Compostela, Compostela Valley Province. Along with this development, the company was also able to acquire Agro Techno Products, Inc., a company engaging in business similar to that of Agway. This affiliate company is now commercially operating as importer of raw materials from abroad.
In November 18, 2008, another major event happened as Agway Chemicals Corp. transferred and inaugurated its new store and office building located along JP Laurel Avenue, Davao City. This three-storey and fully-refurbished building is home to its Sales, Operations, Marketing, Accounting and HR Departments.
Today, through its new, strong and dynamic management and Board of Directors, Agway Chemicals Corporation’s strategic planning, decision-making and implementation is fortified. In its effort to continue its legacy in the industry Agway has continued expanding its operations, hiring new employees to be added to its already 100-strong workforce, searching and penetrating new markets like the Visayas area by establishing branches, developing and licensing more product lines in addition to its existing product lines. As an act of giving back to its workforce, the company was also able to start building 6 new houses for its deserving employees through its Agway Housing Project.
To date, Agway Chemicals Corp. is one of the biggest in distribution of fertilizers, agricultural chemicals and farm equipments in the Visayas and Mindanao. The company is cited as one of the Top 5000 corporations of the Philippines for five consecutive years after its incorporation. All of these are attributed to its vision of taking the lead in the fertilizers and agricultural chemicals industry.
It is the vision of Agway Chemicals Corp. to take the lead in the distribution of fertilizers, pesticides and farm equipments, in Davao City, its nearby cities and all over the Philippines, to religiously carry out its social, economic, legal, technological and environmental responsibilities, to look upon with respect to people and to develop in its workforce the value of teamwork, goal setting and performance for the common good and benefit.
Gearing towards the vision of better living.
